As we are about to celebrate the greatest Gift, Whom we have received from our Father in Heaven, I reflected upon my childhood memories in celebrating Christmas. It was filled with anticipation, excitement, and joy. I could hardly wait to open my gifts, and I watched with anticipation, to see the reaction of my family as they opened my gifts to them. The atmosphere was filled with joy and laughter. For me, it was the best time of the year!
I always knew that we received the greatest Gift, our Savior. As a child, the joy of giving and receiving presents made the concept that Jesus is our spiritual Gift, real to me. When I became older, the celebration was all about my Savior. Giving and receiving presents became the expression of the love and care we have for one another, which Messiah Yeshua – Jesus Christ came to teach us.
He is our greatest Gift, Who keeps on giving and Who taught us to do the same!
Yochanan – John 14:6 Yeshua said, “I AM the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except through me.
Shortly before Jesus’ crucifixion, He told His disciples that He would soon have to leave them. He comforted them with the assurance that they would be taken care of, and summarized all that they have seen, heard and learned from Him in a remarkable “I AM” statement which contains all the “I Am” statements He has made about Himself, while He was with them.
In John 14:6 He said, “I AM the Way, and the Truth and the Life” and then He provided the link, “no one comes to the Father except through me.”
As we read this scripture, we might tend to focus on our eternal reward, in having access to our Father, through Him, but this verse has as much to do with our life here on earth as with our eternal destiny.
Through the ages, in studying the Scriptures, the Hebrew spiritual Leaders continually reflected upon the Tanakh – Old Testament consisting of Torah, the Prophets, and the Writings to search for the:
way – derekh, which they should follow, and how to do it,
truth – emet, how it should be interpreted, and
life – chayim, determine what a devoted believers’ life should look like.
We find the answer to those questions in John 14:6, when Jesus stated, that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Those questions pointed to Him, and through His life, He revealed the answers to us.
I AM the Way
This statement is so profound and contains so much meaning in it.
He is the Way and the only way to our Father. The price He paid for our sins, removed the veil and provided us with direct entry into the Throne Room before our Father through prayer.
He showed us the way we should live, what we should do, how we must go about this life and equipped us to understand the will of our Father, and how to live accordingly here on earth. By being the Way, we can model after Him and do as He has done.
In modeling the Way, we live a life which pleases our Father and honors Him. Through Messiah Yeshua – Jesus Christ our Savior, we have received the way to live life, one that is truly worth living.
Through Him, we have also discovered what love truly is, how to love and how to share that love with one another. Ultimately, He taught us what true love is.
In and through Him, we have received the way of life in its entirety and its fullness!
I AM the Truth
Messiah Yeshua – Jesus Christ is the substance, existence, and representation of truth, in person, character, and word. He is the Word of God.
His life on earth revealed to us, a life of truth in word and deed.
From His teachings, we learned how to interpret the truth, as He explained the meaning of Torah and the Scriptures so that we could have the fullness thereof. He taught us principles, which are the substance of truth, and laid the foundation for righteous living. Such a life can only be expressed through truth.
He is Truth, and the only One, Who could pay the penalty for our sins. By doing so, He made it possible for us to be righteous through Him, and be united with our Father.
I AM the Life
Life is the greatest gift we could ever ask. In spirit, soul, and body.
Messiah Yeshua – Jesus Christ our Savior is the resurrection and the life, and through Him, we receive eternal life.
Without Him, we would walk in spiritual blindness, but through Him, the veil is removed from our spiritual eyes, and we can see. In Him, there is life, restoration, and healing.
His Word is Life, and we can live by every Word He has spoken. It is a fountain of living water and bread for our souls. When we eat and drink from His Word, we will never be hungry or thirsty, but we will be alive for evermore.
“I AM the Way, and the Truth and the Life,” is the greatest Gift we could have dreamed or hoped for, and it is He, Whom we have received from our Father in heaven.
